There’s a change in the air, and I’m not talking about cooler weather and falling leaves. Have you felt it? The season of accountability has arrived.
The docket of cases against Donald Trump and his lackeys has grown exponentially since mid-August. In the next week alone, we can expect a series of events that will continue to tighten the vise of liability around the criminal conduct of Trump’s inner circle over years and sometimes decades.
But the calendar doesn’t stop there. Take a look at what’s coming in the next nine months as of right now:
Peter Navarro’s trial date for Contempt of Congress: 9/5/2023
Arraignment for all 19 Defendants in Fulton County: 9/6/2023
Release of the full Grand Jury Report in Fulton County: 9/8/2023
Trump and kids trial date for New York State civil fraud case: 10/2/2023
Ken Chesebro’s trial date in Fulton County (which may be consolidated with trial for all nineteen defendants): 10/23/2023
Second trial date for E. Jean Carroll’s defamation suit against Trump: 1/15/2024
Trump Organization pyramid scheme trial date: 1/29/2024
Trump’s January 6th trial date (Special Counsel case): 3/4/2024
Trump’s New York City criminal fraud/hush money trial date: 3/25/2024
Trump’s classified documents criminal trial date: 5/20/24
And that’s leaving aside any ongoing investigations in other states where Trump and friends attempted to overthrow the 2020 election results which might result in additional indictments, and other proceedings involving removal attempts to federal court in Georgia by Mark Meadows and others.
All of this, needless to say, looms large over the 2024 election. Most significantly, Jack Smith’s trial for Trump’s January 6th indictment arrives the day before Super Tuesday.
Truly, there seems to be no way out for the former guy. There is a long way to go between now and a conviction, but starting next week, we’ll be able to watch at least some of the proceedings– those in Fulton County, Georgia– on the judge’s new dedicated YouTube livestream.
Public access to these proceedings could make a significant dent in Trump’s non-stop spin and propaganda machine nationwide, and at the bare minimum will distract significantly from his attempt at re-election.
We’re in for a wild ride— and I’ll be here with commentary and analysis on all of it. As you may have heard, my original news and analysis channel, #ResistanceLive, has returned to five day a week programming on YouTube, free and public for all. I look forward to seeing you over there, and don’t forget to subscribe to the channel so you don’t miss a thing.
This season promises to be one of accountability, critical turning points, and perhaps, if we’re lucky, the end of an era that has plagued American politics since that famous day on the escalator in Trump Tower in 2015.
While I am under no illusions that the end of Trump means the end of fascism in America, the end of Trump may nonetheless mean the end of the GOP, leaving that party without a viable nominee next year and, if we all do the work of mobilizing where we live, a scathing defeat of all it stands for in next year’s election.
So buckle up. Hot Accountability Fall (and Spring) is here.
I fervently hope and pray your analysis and expectation(s) are correct, Elizabeth. Thank you for helping to guide us through this taxing journey.
Thank you for organizing the court dates for us. Astounding the high level of criminal activity the GOP has engaged in while trying to impeach President Biden, fire Fani Willis, challenge Judge Chutken and smear Leticia James. It's all a cover up for their immense criminal behavior and crimes.
