Powerful indeed. "I think a lot about this tiny group of people on the Supreme Court...in furtherance of white supremacy, and patriarchy and raw power, will strip us of what little power we have, and by mere words on paper about a case that was decided 50 years ago, take our lives." These are some of the most chilling words I've ever read about RvW....

At 13 wks w/3rd child I violently miscarried and required an emergency DNC to stop the bleeding - under these state laws I could be reported. In fact the nurse was hostile until she found out I was alone because we were from out of town and my hubby was w/our 2 kids in the lobby. I think about that a lot these days . . .

This essay was very relevant to me because I too had a life threatening miscarriage/abortion.

Wow E., the absolute best writing I think I have ever read. I know thats saying alot, to me its profoundly true. My husband has recently asked what I thought about the abortion laws. I said " IDK, I'm kind of torn, because I believe there is a possibility that some woman out there that might use an abortions for their answer for birth control. The other part of me knows, I don't want someone telling me "here's something else you can't do." I remember being on tall cliffs with the Wild Atlantic below in Ireland and thinking, when I had my cousin take my picture standing at the highest top of the cliff with my hands reaching for the sky, with no guard rails, or ugly cement walls to protect us from falling, " Now this is freedom ".

Your article makes me think of that moment on the top of that cliff.

Thank you E. We are all blessed to have you in our lives, to express your forethought, with your legal mind, your vast knowledge from your environments, and your love of what you do💞

I've been fighting since before I could vote. I was 17 & my period wouldn't stop. It went on for several weeks. One night something happened & it became very heavy. Something came out of me. The next am I saw the Dr. He put me in the hospital & performed a D&C to stop the bleeding. He later said I had a "spontaneous abortion yesterday". Part of the fetus was still in me & he had to remove it. If this happened today, I would be subjected to a painful death by sepsis. Do you think any of the male SCOTUS would care? I am still traumatized by that night. A yr later I gave birth to twins, a boy & a girl. I previously decided to give them up for adoption. Which I did. I hope no one has to endure the same thing.

There is little doubt in my mind that the republicans pushing to overturn RvW is just another ploy to make it look like "they are doing something". The GOP love this because it's a great distraction away from their agenda which is to forever change democracy in America so that rich people and cash rich organizations get what they want.....i.e. strengthen the oligarchy that has already established itself in the USA today thanks to Citizens United which enables institutionalized corruption. Solution? citizens united must be overturned, or nothing will change. This is easier said than done because you are asking Congress, which is addicted to unlimited corruption, to cut off their supply of money. Sadly I think American democracy will continue to backslide because (I think) the Biden/Harris administration is just a pause before the backsliding continues on.
