Did you see the yachts at the Super Bowl? Those guys really need tax cuts. Minimum wage in my state, SC, $7.25 per hour. It is an absolute obscenity.

I made 9 jumps. Not this fake skydiving tied to a companion stuff but 5 static line jumps climbing out onto the wing strut and landing gear of an ancient Cessna, then four pull the chord jumps using recut WW2 parachutes. Stupid college student stuff. I know it has decent safety statistics but would not do it again. My last jump I thought I was going to crash through a mobile home.

The view is fantastic.

Scary but fun. There was a pilot in our group and we would rent a plane and fly from Sewanee, Tennessee to Chattanooga. Those were the days.

I have had you by my side since 2016 and once again you are the light that shines and helps me to know I’m not alone. Beautiful message it does not promise anything but means everything. “I think I can, I think I can “, says this little train. Your dedication to humanity and honesty is admirable and appreciated. So nice to have your message waiting for me as I start another crazy day. Thank you.

Your writing is so beautiful. Even if I'm scared to death of what is happening, I look forward to opening your newsletters. The song you chose, wow. Soft screams of please help. Thank you. It's good to know I'm not alone in this chaos and confusion.

You’ve done it again. Hit every note. Took me back to the beginning of this shit storm. Made me cry. Reminded me of my gratitude for this community. But more than that, you told us you are with us on the ledge and that while our collective footing feels quite shaky, we have one another to hold onto. That’s all we can do: hold on & fight what we can. I am trying to let go of what I can’t control and build on what I can while holding my loved ones close as long as I am able.

Thank you.

As always thank you ECM for calling it as it is. There is no sugar coating this. I continue to be astounded (although I shouldn't) as Trump sits submissively seething in his office as every corrupt, self serving, unfit and unqualified member of his facist regime rides roughshod over him. He gave up his power, made a deal with the devil, to stay out of jail. He relinquished his authority to a band or hooligans, thugs and thieves. And we will pay the price everyday for their corrupt decisions. I still believe in fighting back with my fighting spirit, and will continue to do so in all ways possible. But I also learned years ago to build a community of mutual aid, a strong supportive group to help each other. This is where I will put my energy and hope we survive this free fall of democracy. Thank you again as always ECM for your brilliant writing and keeping us grounded in our current reality. I hope the courts persevere.

Thank you dear ECM. Since the election I have made it my goal to meet everyone I encounter with an open heart and compassion. This is the very basis of community. The bonds we are creating of shared grief, dismay, fear...are sealed with our love and our determination to care for one another. As an artist, I've realized my contribution is to share my love of our Earth with my work, giving beauty and love as best I can...your essay today brought tears, the song is perfect. I honor you and your dedication to justice and honor. Blessings to you and your children. Thank you.

Skydiving is the absolute perfect analogy for this moment. All of it, especially the landing options. And I agree, there will be a bottom at some point.

This made my heart stop a little. There's not much we can control, but there's much we can do. The song is lovely. In my mind, I keep hearing Paul Simon singing American Tune. "Still, when I think of the road we're traveling on I wonder what's gone wrong I can't help it, I wonder what's gone wrong"

I did skydive once. The parachute opened, but because the flight partner pulled the cord. He was my safety check.

8 years and counting of thank you's, Elizabeth, for knowledge and inspiration in these tumultuous times.

I love the parachute comparison. I’m sure I was one of the daily broadcast listeners who asked what the bottom was!! How far we have all come from thinking he wouldn’t make it through the first term due to the bastions of justice holding him accountable. Here we are and I am so grateful to you and to our resistance live community. ❤️

Such an insightful and honest message, Elizabeth. I honestly have been so exhausted, rage filled and psychologically and emotionally depleted that reading this tears sprang from my eyes. But I need to do that, as holding it all in isn't sustainable. I so appreciate your realization with your friend that so much of this is out of our control, but we can be in community and be, as the Sara Bareilles/John Legend song says, "be a safe place to land" for those that need it. Thank you for all you do, and are, Elizabeth.
