Glad you took the time to practice what you always tell us and take some time for yourself! You certainly deserve it and unquestionably have earned it! Thank you for all you do for all of us!!!
I remember the 3am twitter a bit too well. I’ve found my dreams riddled with concentration camps and horrors. So awake seems not so bad….
Hi, Elizabeth. I have thought of you throughout this week and wondered if you were having trouble disengaging when so much is going on. If you haven't already, I urge you to read Heather Cox Richardson's email post that was in my box this morning. It is her email/post for April 17. It is a gathering of hopeful news. Thanks so much for all you do. You are keeping me sane.
Hope it was a fun break snowboarding with the kids. You are gutsier than me, I always stuck to skis. It was good for me to disengage as I look to your wisdom and commentary
So happy to hear from you this morning. Everyday I thought of you hoping you were having a great time off with family. At each news break during this week I would think I wonder what Elizabeth thinks or what you would say. You are such a member of so many families I hope you feel the love and admiration. Welcome back. !
Hi Elizabeth, Thank you for this newsletter, it's spot on and from the heart. Like most who have already commented, my thoughts have been with you and your family this past week. Sending hugs and wishes for a weekend filled with the love of family and friends. I've been hanging on to hope because, honestly, it's all we have right now. We got you, you got us and that's how it's going to be as we proceed into the unknown. I feel sorry for those whose lives center around money, fame, success, etc. We know that there is more....way more. 💖
I've been thinking of you every day this week and hearing your voice nonetheless, saying pretty much what you've said here. So thank you for this letter, your words make me feel ok to be scared AND to feel hope and strength in the good things that are also happening.
And yeah, not enough Melatonin in the world these nights, :(
Hi ECM. Thank you so much for this post. As with others here, I am so glad you took the advice you always give us. As the spring flowers and trees bud out, I try every day to find some hope and optimism. I will be attending a local protest tomorrow and had a bit of fun preparing my sign. I feel a bit selfish in saying that it will be good to hear your voice again.
I finally found myself knocked into panic this week; for me, too, it was the horror of Kilmar's situation, followed by the threat of "it could happen to anyone." I am working even harder to regain my footing, with intermittent success. I had been doing reasonably well up till then, with allowing only momentary losses of balance, then regaining it (though I could also feel that balancing mechanism getting worn and tired). Hugs to you.
I finally got to read this. Thank you so much. I appreciate all you do and missed you this week as too much was going on. Glad you will be back on Monday.
I can't get the image of the men being held in the El Salvador prison out of my head. I believe most of the men there are either innocent or redeemable. Even though some may be hardened criminals (serial rapist, murderers), I feel they deserve mercy and better treatment. I would rather they be given a survival kit and sent to a remote location in the world to live out their days with God in the wilderness where they cannot harm anyone. Let God judge their lives and take their lives as HE sees fit. Karma can be a bitch! I wish Venezuelan president, Nicolas Maduro would negotiate with El Salvador president, Bukele to release Venezuelan men held at CECOT into Venezuelan custody or get them released by force. I wish the UN or some international entity would do something to eradicate these torture prisons all over the world and prosecute leaders of nations that have such prisons. I think the disgusting gop representatives that took photo ops at CECOT should have their heads shaved, be shackled and held for a time at CECOT so perhaps they would have sympathy for innocent men being held at CECOT. Perhaps folks like melania, Ivanka, pam bondi and kristi noem should be held hostage until those innocent men are released - wonder how their loved ones would feel. I hope I see the day when trump is finally brought to justice and is stripped of his presidential titles and that all the damage he has done will be reversed. I hope everyone who followed trump in his tyranny are brought to justice and those in the legal profession lose their law licenses. I believe in Karma, I love Karma!
All good, obvious advice, until you read it in one place and realize just how startling it really is. Though a long time coming, this 75 year old is pretty shocked at the greed, cruelty and incompetence of these almost hundred days. How our peace has been robbed from us is perfectly described by ECM who writes so clearly and with so much heart. The Pope passing at this moment also adds to the dread, the fear. But if we follow ECM’s advice which she herself tries to follow, we will get through this.
I am sleeping well but awake I am most concerned about Hegseth and Powell. Who they will eventually be replaced with, as they most certainly will go, is very scary. It will get a lot worse before it gets better but we are together and have each other here and in our communities.
Glad you took the time to practice what you always tell us and take some time for yourself! You certainly deserve it and unquestionably have earned it! Thank you for all you do for all of us!!!

Rest is so important but often neglected. Thank you for showing me its importance. See you next week.
