Excellent. Well written. Meaningful. All of this, and more. Forgiveness is a powerful tool. I wish everyone was in recovery, because this country needs the tools of healing, and forgiveness is one of the most powerful ones. It restores sanity and serenity to us and allows us to focus on what matters and move forward into joy.

I know what you say is true. Forgiveness sometimes happens to heal ourselves not to expect something from the other person. Without accountability, forgiveness is hard but so rewarding to our soul. It lightens the burden that we have been carrying. Beautiful message

So beautifully written and I needed to read this today! I'm a proud cradle to grave Catholic even knowing that Catholic clergy and laypersons have done some atrocious things throughout history, so your essay could easily apply to them. Reading this essay, these beautiful words came to mind, "To error is human, to forgive Divine." In most cases, I've found it easier to forgive persons who have harmed me, but found it difficult to forgive persons who hurt others. It will be very difficult for me to forgive trump and his followers for the damage they did (and are still doing) to our country and the abuse and harm they have inflicted on so many people. The same goes for putin and other brutal dictators, autocrats and regimes that have wreaked so much havoc on humanity. I made up this simple prayer that helps me deal with my anger over the seemingly unforgivable hatred and abuses displayed by damaged and insensitive people. "Dear Lord, please change the hearts and minds of the wicked so that they will want to lead holy lives and serve You and Your people."

ECM, Beautifully written and expressed. You are courageous to have shared with us on The Broadcast over the past 4-5 years some trauma you have dealt with. By releasing and forgiving this trauma I hope it brings you peace in body and soul. I’ve read about the power of forgiving yourself or another. You may know about the Native American Ride for Reconciliation. You are brave, just as they are. The past can’t be fixed, but the burden can be released which you have done. Thank you for sharing this experience with us.
